Fish & Chip Supper with Johnny Mercer MP

Tonbridge Branch will be hosting Johnny Mercer MP at their forthcoming fish & chip supper on Thursday 23 November at the Old Fire Station, Castle Street, Tonbridge commencing at 7.30pm.

Johnny entered politics with a view to improving the care of veterans and claims never to have voted before getting involved in politics. He was selected to contest Plymouth Moor View for the 2015 General Election, held by Labour MP Alison Seabeck. Seen by the pollsters as the no-hoper to finish third behind Labour and UKIP, Johnny was largely responsible for organising his own campaign "on the cheap". To raise funds he worked on building sites and even appeared in a shower gel advert. He was elected with a majority of 152 in May 2015 and re-elected in June 2017 with an increased majority of 5,019.

In June 2017, Johnny published "We Were Warriors: One Soldier's Brutal Story of Combat", a memoir of his three tours of Afghanistan. The Evening Standard described the book as "one of the greatest accounts of close combat by a man remarkable in his humanity and courage." Signed copies of Johnny's book will be for sale at the event.
